Our Wedding

We first spotted each other at a 4th of July gathering in 1998.  Jay was at the home of some friends from his Landmark Education classes.  Amy had just gotten off a 12 hour shift at the hospital and her neighbor Pam invited her to a gathering of her husband Mark's Landmark friends in Coppell.

Amy spotted Jay and thought he looked nice and mentioned him to Pam - who said sorry, he's married.  Not sure what Jay was thinking that time.

In Augst, Pam graduated with her degree in Math and had a Math Party.  Jay and Amy were both present, but being the nerds that they are, were more focused on the math problems (Pam's party games) than noticing each other.

In October, Pam asked Amy if she wanted to go out with one of Mark's friends.  (She remembered the 4th of July converstaion even though Amy had forgotten it, and Jay was now divorced so she saw an opportunity to play matchmaker.)  Pam had Mark ask Jay to go out with one of Pam's friends.

Amy was planning to move to Colorado at the end of 1998 and was lining up jobs and apartments.  Jay was recently divorced.  But, I guess neither of us had anything to lose!

Jay called Amy on a Thursday in October, and we talked for hours.  We made plans to go out on our first date on Saturday.  We talked for hours again on Friday, and Jay asked Amy if he could pick her up Saturday morning since his other Saturday obligation had fallen through.  An all-day date?  Could be a disaster if we hadn't hit it off, but we did!  We spent the day at the lake and saw a movie that evening.  It was like being with an old friend!

Amy took a trip to Colorado in November because she wasn't about to make a life change for a "guy," so she continued with the plans to relocate...until December.  In December we both sort of just decided that we belonged together and should get married instead of moving apart!

We got married at Amy's then church, Presbyterian Church at Hackberry Creek in Irving, Texas, on May 29, 1999.  We honeymooned in Maui and had so much fun getting off the beaten path and exploring the islands!

We didn't have much time together before the rest of the family arrived - over Labor Day weekend of 1999, we used Jay's non-rev flight passes to vacation in Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada.  Andy was conceived while on vacation and the rest is history...
